The other popular purpose of a table lamp but something that has not been so tapped by house owners is the ability and capability of table lamps to set the mood of the whole room depending upon the type of bulb used. But this is no way a one-way street. You can only set the mood well if you try to coordinate the lighting effect with the furnishing and decors found inside the room.
